Craig Ireland
Craig has over 18 years experience in Salmonid Farming and Hatchery Management.
Craig’s career began at Dunbar trout farm in 1986.
He then went onto gain a Fish Farming and Fisheries management Diploma with Distinction from the Barony Agricultural College Dumfries.
He moved up to the Highlands and took up position at Rothiemurchus Trout Farm and become heavily involved in expanding the trout-restocking site of the Business. In 1991 Craig relocated to the Central Belt to manage a 300 tonne rainbow trout farm followed by further study at Aberdeen University, where he gained a Batchelor Degree in World Aquaculture.
After University Craig gained more experience working on one of Scotland’s largest restocking farms as well as a spell at Stirling Universities Salmon Research facility at Buckieburn.
Martin Moore approached Craig in 1995 and he became Assistant Manager at Inverness Fish Farming’s Delfour Hatchery.
From 1998 to 2002 he worked for the Scottish Executive as a Sea Fisheries Officer stationed in Oban and Fraserburgh. In 2002 Craig and his family returned to Strathspey to buy Inverness Fish Farming.
This background and expert knowledge of fish rearing, fisheries research, fish health monitoring and farm design and building has enabled Craig to assist in a range of situations from small estate hatcheries to large commercial smolt units.
