Non-lethal Fisheries Surveys
We conduct fisheries surveys on a number of estates in Scotland primarily for assessing the fish populations as part of an ongoing process of stocking. This gives a before and after view of the populations.
We use a variety of methods for these assessments such as electro fishing, trapping and such like but we do not use any method which will kill the fish being sampled. There are a number of scientific methods such as gill netting which purport to be necessary to obtain valid samples but the outcome is only a confirmed number of dead fish.
Our methods will give a statistically valid minimum estimate but will ensure that no fish are killed in the process.
Both Craig and Nick are trained operators with electro fishing equipment. They both have a wide experience of fish capture techniques in Scotland and Nick also has extensive fish capture experience from Europe, Africa and Asia.
